Coronavirus Outbreak- How to Protect Yourself from this Novel Virus- A Review

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so its important that everyone also practice respiratory etiquette. We have summarised some of the strategies and precautions one can take to block virus transmission Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is caused by the COVID-19 virus, which was first detected in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. On 30 January 2020, the WHO Director-General declared that the current outbreak constituted a public health emergency of international concern. While most people with COVID-19 develop only mild or uncomplicated illness, approximately 14% develop severe disease that requires hospitalization and oxygen support, and 5% require admission to an intensive care unit. In severe cases, COVID-19 can be complicated by the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis and septic shock, multiorgan failure, including acute kidney injury and cardiac injury. Older age and co-morbid disease have been reported as risk factors for death. The longest observed duration of viral shedding in survivors was 37 days.
