Prevalence of Central Giant Cell Granuloma among Kashmiri population- 5 year Retrospective analysis | |

Objective: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively evaluate epidemiological aspects of central giant cell granuloma among Kashmiri population. Methods: Study was carried out from January 2013 to October 2017, data was retrieved from the files of Department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Government Dental college and hospital, Srinagar. A total of 230 records of the giant cell lesions were reviewed and 34 cases confirmed by histopathology diagnosis were selected. Information regarding age distribution, gender, location of the lesion and clinical signs and symptoms was documented. Results: A total of 34 patients were affected by central giant cell granuloma during the study period. The mean age was 24.91 ± 18.16. CGCGs had a peak of occurrence in the second and third decade of life. A female predominance was shown (59%). 61.7% lesions were located in the mandible, and 38.3% were associated with the maxilla. Posterior mandible was the most frequent site, second most common site being posterior maxilla. The majority of patients were asymptomatic. Jaw expansion was the commonest presenting symptom. Conclusion: In our present study, an attempt was made to study the incidence of central giant cell lesions of the jaws reported in our institute and to compare the results with reports from other parts of the world.
