Background:
Denture adhesives are supplied as a paste, powder or cream. As the Adhesive powders absorb water, they swell to many times their original volume and the anions so formed, interact with cations in the proteins in the oral mucous membrane. Hence, we planned the present study to assess the effectiveness of denture adhesives for lower dentures. Materials and method: In present study, we assessed the effectiveness of denture adhesives for lower dentures. A total of 50 edentulous patients were included in the present study and were randomly divided into two study groups; Group 1 included patients with well-formed and good mandibular ridges while group 2 included patients with low well rounded ridges. The retention force of mandibular denture was calculated for each patient in all groups. The statistical analysis of the data was done using SPSS software. Results: Significant results were obtained while comparing the mean retentive forces among patients of group 1 and group 2. Conclusion: Retention of mandibular dentures is significantly increased by denture adhesives.
Keywords: Complete denture, denture adhesive, denture stability.
