Assessment of marginal adaptation of MTA based sealer and AH plus sealer: A comparative study

Background: Pulp necrosis denotes the cessation of the metabolic processes of this tissue, with consequent loss of its structure, as well as its natural defenses. Hence; the present study was undertaken to determine which root canal sealer provides better marginal adaptation to the root dentin. Materials & methods: Extracted 40 single rooted teeth were enrolled. The length of the roots was standardized to 12 mm by the removal of the crown of each tooth with a diamond disc. Working length was assessed. Chemo-Mechanical Preparation was done. The canals were dried with absorbent paper points and were randomized into five groups of 10 teeth each, as following: Group A: Obturation using AH PLUS, Group B: Obturation using MTA fillapex & Group C (Control): Obturation without any sealer. All the sample teeth were obturated using single cone obturation technique. Overall average gaps at this interface were calculated for each sample and results were tabulated. The results were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS software. Results: While analysing statistically it was seen that mean overall marginal adaptation was found to be of following order: Group A > Group B >Group C; AH PLUS > MTA Fillapex > Control. Conclusion: AH Plus has been widely accepted as a sealer in root canal filling with Gutta-percha due to its better adhesion. Key words: AH PLUS, MTA Fillapex
