Background: There is a recent trend of increasing levels of dental caries in most of the developing countries. Children of all age groups are affected by dental caries and its treatment is restorative care, which may even include pulp therapy. Hence; the present study was undertaken for assessing the incidence of dental caries among school going children. Materials & Methods: A total of 500 school going children were screened during the study period. Thorough clinical examination and oral analysis of all the subjects was done using mouth mirror and probe. Selective age group for the present study was 10 to 16 years. Only those subjects were examined which gave cooperation for carrying out oral assessment. Prevalence of dental caries was recorded. All the results were analyzed using SPSS software. Results: The overall incidence of dental caries was 25 percent. Among these 125 subjects, mean age was 14.6 years and 80 subjects were males. The remaining 45 subjects were females. Out of these 125 subjects, 69 subjects belonged to lower class of socio-economic status. Conclusion: Dental caries are more common among males with lower socio-economic status.
