Background: Cancer of the oral cavity is the most common neoplasm in the developing countries. The incidence of precancerous lesions of the oral cavity such as oral leukoplakia and oral submucous fibrosis is also very high. Hence; the present study was undertaken for analyzing salivary copper levels in oral leukoplakia patients. Materials & Methods: Enrollment of a total of 50 oral leukoplakia patients and 50 healthy controls was done. Complete demographic and clinical details of all the patients were obtained. Test tubes were used for obtaining salivary samples. All the samples were sent for assessment of salivary copper levels and subjects to statistical analysis using SPSS software. Results: Mean salivary copper levels among patients of the study group and control group was 53.61 ppb and 9.32 ppb respectively. Significant results were obtained while comparing the mean salivary copper levels among the patients of the two study groups. Conclusion: Salivary copper levels are significantly altered in oral leukoplakia patients. Key words: Copper, Oral Leukoplakia
