RETROSPECTIVE EVALUATION OF COMPLICATIONS OCCURRING IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING DENTAL EXTRACTIONS- AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

Background: Tooth extraction is a surgical treatment to remove teeth that are affected by decay or gum disease (performed by general dentists). Patients are commonly seen suffering from various post-extractions complications. Hence; we planned the present study to assess various complications occurring in patients undergoing dental extractions. Materials & methods: The present study included assessment of patients undergoing dental extractions for various reasons. A total 200 subjects were included in the present study. Only simple extractions requiring simple elevation and forceps application were included in the study. All patients in the study group were prescribed antibiotics and analgesics and explained about wound care postoperatively. Patients were given adequate instructions for marinating proper oral hygiene. All the complications were noted in all the subjects. All the results were analysed by SPSS software. Results: Laceration was found in 12 percent of the subjects. 20 subjects showed presence of soft tissue injury. Haemorrhage and post-operative infection was seen in twenty patients each. Conclusion: Complications do occur significantly in subjects undergoing dental extractions. Proper care should be taken while doing dental extractions.
