ASSESSMENT OF EFFICACY OF LIDOCAINE AND ARTICAINE IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING SURGICAL DENTAL EXTRACTIONS- A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Background: Local anesthesia is an important part of the daily routines for a dentist. Different anaesthetic solutions show minute alterations, in terms of their efficacy and effect on dental anaesthesia. Hence; we planned the present study to assess and compare the effectiveness of Lidocaine and articaine in patients undergoing surgical dental extractions. Materials & methods: The present study included assessment of efficacy of Lidocaine and articaine in patients undergoing surgical dental extractions. A total of 20 subjects were included in the present study and were broadly divided into two study groups with ten subjects in each group. In the first group; patients were delivered 2 % lidocaine while in the other group, subjects were given 4 % Articaine solution of local anaesthesia. All surgeries were performed by the same surgeon. All the results were recorded, compiled and analysed by SPSS software. Results: In the present study, a total of 20 subjects were enrolled, out of which ten subjects were given Lidocaine while the remaining ten subjects were given Articaine. Completely success cases in the Lidocaine study group and in the Articaine study group were found to be 90 percent and 80 percent respectively. Conclusion: Efficacy of Articaine is equal to that of Lidocaine in patients undergoing dental extraction procedure.
