An insight of nanotechnology in dentistry: A comprehensive review
Kamaljit Kaur, Harnoor Bains

Nanotechnology creates incredibly useful structures from individual atoms or molecules. It has rapidly expanded into all areas of science; it offers significant alternative ways to solve scientific and medical questions and problems. It provides a new alternative and a possibly superior approach for the identification of oral health related problems and also in designing of more biocompatible dental materials with better properties and potential. Nanodentistry is striving its best to apply new advances in dentistry. Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on the molecular and atomic levels. It has the potential to bring enormous changes into the fields of medicine and dentistry. This review discusses how nanotechnolgy has been employed in various aspects of dentistry such as composite restorations, local anaesthesia, dental implants, local drug delivery, impression making. It also focuses on some challenging areas in dentistry, eg, oral cancers. The recent advances in nanodentistry and innovations in oral health-related diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic methods required to maintain and obtain perfect oral health, have been discussed. The recent advances in nanotechnology could hold promise in bringing a paradigm shift in dental field. Key words: Nanotechnology
