Background: Occlusal analysis has involved a lot of guesswork for dentists over the past few years.  Most methods employed are the use of articulation paper, waxes, and pressure indicator paste etc. These traditional methods have made it very difficult to accurately detect and measure occlusal contacts area precisely prior to making occlusal adjustments. With the upcoming of digital era, the traditional methods are now changed to much more advanced occlusal analysis systems like T Scan III and NBS occlusal analysis system. Hence; we planned the present study to evaluate the occlusal contact areas in   fixed crown and bridge patients in using computerized occlusal system (Nupai bite scan) as compared to conventional method of articulating paper. Materials & methods: This study compared the measurements of occlusal contact areas obtained by computerized and conventional methods of articulating paper. Intraoral and Extraoral photographs of all the patients were taken prior to carrying out the analysis. All the patients were subjected to articulating paper occlusion recording. The articulating paper was placed intraorally and the subject was asked to clench their teeth firmly on the articulation paper. Standardized photographs were taken to compare the markings with those nubai bite scan recordings at a later stage. All photographs were taken with a digital SLR camera (Canon) in manual mode. An intraoral mirror was placed in the mouth and photos of the articulating paper 40, 100, 200 micron markings were captured accurately. The procedure was repeated until a clear photograph was obtained. A freehand sketcher (Adobe Photoshop was used to magnify 100% and calculate the paper mark surface area in photographic pixels. The tooth and the contact location of the the largest paper mark were recorded on a Microsoft excel sheet. Results: In the study NBS occlusal analysis system showed the surface area marking of mean value of 246.4mm2. 40 micron thick paper showed significantly the small area marking compare to 100-200 micron paper indicating greater accuracy. Conclusion: Nupai bite scan is reliable tool to detect early occlusion contact and is an effective method to cheque occlusal balances
