CARIES VACCINE-REDUCE DRILL AND FILL
Sonam Jalewa, Vinisha Pandey

According to W.H.O. “A vaccine is a biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease .A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease causing microorganism and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe , its toxins or one of its surface proteins.”The first question that comes in our mind is, “Why were vaccines developed in the first place?” As an ans to this: Vaccines were developed to combat massive public health crises around the world that killed thousands of people at a time, sometimes decimating whole towns. There are mainly five types if vaccines: a) Attenuated vaccines; b) Inactivated vaccines;  c) Subunit vaccines; d) Toxoid vaccines; e) Conjugate vaccines. The need of the hour and a very much spoken and researched topic is the “caries vaccine”. Dental caries being a very much prevalent and an infectious disease have been vastly studied on and now researchers want a vaccine for it as well. Many studies have been conducted on this but till date it has not reached upto a certain standard that it can be delivered to all the human populations. The clinical trials of immunologically superior dental caries vaccine formulations may make it an approachable formulation against dental caries in the near future.
